Milan-Atalanta talking Saponara-Baselli swap?

According to Gianluca di Marzio, Riccardo Saponara of Milan has asked to leave the club, with Atalanta as a legitimate suitor for the 23 year old Italian midfielder. Daniele Baselli could be a possibility for Milan in this deal. Talks are still on-going after both club officials met today to discuss some players.

Saponara has played very little since arriving from Empoli in July 2013 after having a spectacular season during the 2012-13 campaign for the former Serie B side, scoring 13 goals and assisting 15. The U-21 Italy international was deemed by many as the replacement for Kaká, which is simply a lot of pressure to place on a young player coming in to a club like Milan. However, we have been unable to witness his full capabilities as he hasn't been given the proper amount of minutes, which has caused him to want to depart.

With Saponara possibly headed out of Milan, Atalanta's young midfielder Daniele Baselli is reportedly on the Milan radar. Baselli, 22, is a former teammate to current Rossoneri midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura, who moved to Milan in the dying hours of the summer transfer window last year. Baselli is a central midfielder who would help reinforce arguably the club's biggest need and that's in the midfield. Riccardo Montolivo has recently returned from a major injury but Milan still lack the quality and depth in the center of the 4-3-3 so this would be a player that could surely help.

Additionally, there have been reports that on loan Dutch midfielder, Marco van Ginkel, could cancel his season loan with Milan and return to Chelsea before being loaned back out to Vitesse again. If this is the case, Baselli could fill right into the midfield mix at Milan. Again, talks are in the preliminary stages but it appears that Saponara will depart Milan this month and Milan could perhaps see some new blood in the midfield. Stay tuned.
